It’s 30 minutes to the Neolithic Tombs at Newgrange, and 40 minutes to Carlingford in the Cooley Penninsula, home of the legand of The Tain, and where you can go to see the last Leprechauns in Ireland, and hunt for their gold! Carlingford is also famed for seafood and the Oyster Festival. There are world-renowned Neolithic structures at Newgrange, Knowth, Dowth, the Hill of Tara, and Lough Crew.

Carlingford, Co Louth
The name comes from the Vikings, The first settlement sprang up around the foundation laid for a castle on a rocky outcrop between Strangford Lough and Sliabh Foy by Norman knight Hugh De Lacy in the early 12th century. Once established, Carlingford flourished. The position on the east coast was excellent for a trading port, the lough had large shoals of herring and the Carlingford Green Finned Oyster was renowned around the world from the Middle Ages on…and still is today! Carlingfor is known for seafood, history and of course , the Leprechauns!
